Camiguin Island is the smallest island in the northern part of Mindanao. The title “Island Born of Fire” was given to it because although it is small, it is a home for seven volcanoes, one of which is the still active volcano Mt. Hibok-Hibok. You do not have to worry though because the Camiguin Island now is very safe and quiet, perfect place for a perfect getaway!
The main industry of the island is agriculture. Because of the volcanic eruptions, the soil became very fertile and now the island is famous for its coconuts, camote, corn, coffee and banana. The island is also considered to be the top when it comes to producing abaca fiber.

- Catarman Church Ruins
During the 1871 volcanic eruption in the island, it had wiped out a lot of settlements. This includes the Old Spanish Church in Catarman which was built in the year 1697. The ruins of the church are now being visited by tourists because of the rich Spanish culture left in them.
- Sunken Cemetery
The 1871 volcanic eruption in the island had sunken the community cemetery. This is why the government decided to put a cross marker to mark the place for people to know. Some of the gravestones in the cemetery are visible when there is a low tide. The Sunken Cemetery has been popular for scuba divers because of the interesting sight it offers.
- Katibawasan Falls and Tuasan Falls
Camiguin Island is also a land for majestic waterfalls. Katibawasan Falls is 250 feet in height and is bordered by beautiful nature including wild ferns, orchids and trees. It is a perfect spot during summer because of its cold water. Tuasan Falls, on the other hand, is 25 meter high. Before you get to the spot, you will have to go trekking first.
- Tangub Hot Spring and Macao Cold Spring
Tangub hot spring is a popular diving site in the island. It is an interesting place to visit because the water temperature here varies depending on the tide level. Macao cold spring, on the other hand, is one of the most amazing spots in the island because of its crystal blue water. The place is very refreshing and it is a very great spot to commune with nature – trees and fishes!
- Mt. Hibok-Hibok
When in Camiguin, you should never forget to visit its active volcano! The climb is quite challenging but the reward is really worth it. The peak of the volcano will offer you great view of the island and its neighboring islands. While at it, you should also drop by the ardent hot spring. With its water of about 40 C, it is a good way to rejuvenate after a long hike.
- White Island
The Philippines is popular for its beaches and so is Camiguin. White Island offers a perfect place for swimming and snorkelling. What is interesting in this island is that its shape varies depending on the tide levels. It also offers great view of the mountains.
